"Thank you for making the adventure of our first B&B a very positive one. My children will never forget how they slept in a loft and watched the stars above the skylight. You were the perfect host!"

Greg & Marcia Hendrix, Washburn, MO

Enjoy our full buffet breakfast in our sunny dining room. Each day we feature a different hot entrée made with rich golden eggs from a local farm. You will be served fruit, hickory smoked bacon or ham, savory sausage, fluffy biscuits and homemade sausage gravy. Our buttermilk waffles and pancakes are light and fluffy, and our muffins and sweetbreads are made from "scratch." Be sure you try our homemade rhubarb sauce plus delicious jellies and spreads made here in Arkansas. We serve rich, hot coffee and offer a variety of teas and fresh juice...We're pleased to include some of our guests favorite dishes to enjoy in your own home.

Carmelized French Toast: serves 8-10

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup light brown sugar 3 tablespoons light Karo syrup
  • 6 tablespoons butter
  • 3 to 4 Granny Smith apples
  • 6 slices Texas toast
  • 6 eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
Preparation:
  • Preparation Time: 20 minutes
  • Cooking Time: 45 minutes
  • Temperature: 350°
  • Container Size: 9x13-inch glass dish
Method:

Combine brown sugar, Karo syrup and butter in a  saucepan. Bring to a boil and cook for 1 minute. Pour into a greased or sprayed 9x13-inch baking dish. (Note: Warm the dish slightly to help spread the caramelized mixture.

Whisk together the eggs, milk and vanilla and pour over bread. Cover and refrigerate overnight. Bring to room temperature (approx. 1 hour) before baking. Bake as specified or until golden brown. Let cool 5 to 10 minutes before cutting into squares.

Peel and slice the apples and place on top of the caramel mixture. Cube Texas toast and spread evenly on top of the caramel/apple mixture. This should fill up the dish

*Recipe can be served without the apples and it is just as good!. This is delicious served with scrambled eggs, sausage and fresh-squeezed orange juice.
